Sonic Team signals new traditional Sonic titles for 2024
Sonic Team has not announced any new traditional Sonic games since the release of Sonic Frontiers in 2022. Team head Takashi Iizuka told 80LV that the franchise needs a diverse portfolio and that the studio will keep delivering content that stays true to the Sonic universe.
The studio is already providing post‑launch updates for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, with a second season confirming its long‑term investment in the title. Iizuka said the company hopes to announce a sequel to Sonic Frontier at Gamescom in August or at the Tokyo Game Show in September.
Sonic the Hedgehog celebrated its 35th anniversary this summer, reviving rumors of a follow‑up to Sonic Frontier.
