Soninké Language Day celebrated in Senegal and Mali

The 3rd edition of the International Soninké Language Day (JILSO) was celebrated in Dakar, Senegal, and Bamako, Mali, focusing on cultural preservation and community stability.

In Dakar, the event was held at the Maison de la Culture Douta Seck. The ceremony marked a significant institutional milestone for the Wagadu Jiida organization, as its new president, Khalil Sy, delivered his first official address following a period of restructuring. The event was attended by representatives from the Senegalese ministries of National Education and Culture.

In Bamako, the commemoration took place at the Mémorial Modibo KEÏTA under the theme ‘The experience of conflict management in the Soninké environment.’ Organized by the Association Culturelle Soninké (ACS Mali – MAARENKAFO), the gathering focused on traditional mechanisms for mediation, dialogue, and dispute resolution. The ceremony included participation from Mali’s Minister of Reconciliation, Peace, and National Cohesion, alongside ministers of National Education and Culture, to discuss how ancestral knowledge can support contemporary national peace and social cohesion.
