Sonipat: Daughters absent from father's final funeral rites

In Sonipat, Haryana, the final religious rites for Shivcharan Ram Ratan Gupta, a cloth merchant, were performed at the Geeta Mandir. The ceremony included a Havan Yagya and the distribution of Prasad, attended by local leaders and members of social organizations.

Despite the completion of the rituals according to Hindu customs, none of Gupta’s family members attended the ceremony. His three daughters, who had previously participated in the cremation via video call and the immersion of ashes via WhatsApp, reportedly declined to attend the 13th-day ceremony (Terahvin) in advance.

Anand Kumar, the operator of the old age home where Gupta resided, noted that while the daughters were in contact, they refused to be physically present. Local social workers expressed concern over the incident, citing it as an example of declining social and familial values.
