Sonnabend Collection in Mantova features Gilbert & George

The Sonnabend Collection in Mantova has announced a new temporary project focusing on the British artist duo Gilbert & George, alongside a reorganization of its permanent exhibits. The project highlights the long-standing relationship between the artists and Ileana Sonnabend, who supported their work early in their careers.

The exhibition features the duo's signature colorful photographic aesthetics and the 1972 charcoal work, ‘The Bar’. These pieces are presented in dialogue with other major movements from the last 70 years represented in the collection, including Andy Warhol’s Brillo Box, the Dusseldorf School of photography, and Neo Pop.

Artistic director Mario Codognato noted that the collection is designed to be dynamic, utilizing its diverse holdings to allow for rotating displays. A notable addition to this reorganization is the inclusion of works by Jeff Koons.
