Sonnenberg Community Center opens new accessible club rooms
The former restaurant space in the Sonnenberg Community Center has been converted into the ‘Köhler-Raum’, a new accessible facility for local clubs and associations. Following a handover by Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende on October 23, the rooms will be available for use starting in November.
The renovated space includes a 55-square-meter room with 42 seats, an 13-square-meter club room with eight seats, and an accessible restroom. The project was developed by the municipal administration and the building authority to repurpose the site after the previous restaurant closed due to fire protection requirements.
Renovations were conducted in coordination with monument protection authorities, involving the restoration of historic stucco, plaster, and wooden wall paneling, as well as the installation of new parquet flooring and updated electrical and sanitary systems.
