Sonny Styles critiques preseason debut with Washington Commanders

Washington Commanders rookie linebacker Sonny Styles expressed dissatisfaction with his NFL preseason debut against the Miami Dolphins. Styles, the seventh pick in the draft, played only a single defensive drive during the game, which resulted in a 93-yard touchdown for Miami.

Following a review of the game film, Styles noted that he needs to improve his fundamentals, specifically citing footwork and hand usage. He described the experience as a “reality check” and stated his intention to start faster in future opportunities if granted more playing time by head coach Dan Quinn.

During training camp, Styles has been tasked with wearing the “green dot” helmet to communicate plays to the defense. He has been working alongside veteran linebacker Frankie Luvu to learn the nuances of the professional game and improve his ability to recognize offensive formations and concepts.
