Sonora authorities launch raids following attack on AMIC facilities

Security forces in Sonora, Mexico, have intensified operations in Magdalena de Kino following an armed attack on the Criminal Investigation Ministerial Agency (AMIC) facilities on October 28, 2026. The attack resulted in the death of agent Alberto Guzmán Aguiar.

In response, the AMIC, supported by the Secretariat of National Defense (DEFENSA), the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), and the State Public Security Police (PESP), executed four search warrants on properties linked to those under investigation. Three properties were seized during the operations. Authorities also recovered ammunition and a spider monkey during the searches.

The attack occurred approximately 15 minutes after the State Attorney General's Office (FGJES) linked two suspects, Nolberto Manuel “N” and Juan Francisco “N”, to the homicide of AMIC group leader Juan Manuel Quintana Valenzuela. These individuals were being processed for a separate incident that took place in Ímuris on June 18, 2026.
