Sonora Congress proposes support for women facing perinatal loss
The Congress of Sonora has moved an initiative to the health commission aimed at providing comprehensive care for women and families experiencing fetal, gestational, or perinatal loss. Proposed by Deputy Deni Gastélum Barreras, the reform seeks to amend the State Health and Mental Health Laws to ensure dignified and human treatment during these losses.
The proposal includes establishing mandatory protocols for psychological accompaniment and specialized follow-up. Key measures include separating grieving patients from areas containing live newborns and implementing the ‘Butterfly Code’ to identify patient rooms and files. Additionally, the ‘Ginna Badge’ would be created to recognize healthcare institutions that successfully implement these protocols. The initiative also emphasizes training medical personnel to provide ethical and respectful care.
