Hermosillo hosts international energy and mining forums
Hermosillo, Sonora, is hosting major international events focused on sustainable development and industry. The fifth edition of the World Solar Energy Forum featured keynote speakers including former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and former Bogotá Mayor Enrique Peñalosa. Trudeau emphasized the economic intelligence of solar energy and praised the city's leadership in electromobility, specifically noting the integration of electric vehicles into municipal and police fleets. Peñalosa highlighted Hermosillo's urban planning initiatives, such as the HBus system, bike lanes, and the use of treated water in Parque Madero, to promote sustainable mobility and public spaces.
Additionally, the city is preparing for the 16th International Mining Congress Sonora 2026, scheduled for November 9–14. The congress is expected to draw 15,000 participants and specialists from countries including the United States, Canada, China, Australia, Peru, and Chile. The event will focus on technical knowledge exchange and the mining sector's significant role in the regional economy, where Sonora contributes over 32% of Mexico's national mining production.
