Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño met with representatives of Canadian mining firms—including Goldgroup Mining, Silver Viper Minerals, Riverside Resources and Gold Resource Corporation—to strengthen international partnerships and attract new capital to Sonora’s mining sector. He highlighted the state’s leadership in copper (over 80% of national output), molybdenum (100% of national output), and strong positions in gold, graphite and wollastonite, emphasizing the industry’s role in jobs and the clean‑energy transition.

Durazo also noted Sonora’s industrial expansion, reporting a 5.5% month‑on‑month increase in activity for February 2026, placing the state fourth among Mexican states. The governor pointed to 2025 export earnings of US$28.6 billion, US$2.7 billion in foreign direct investment and roughly 34,000 new formal jobs created in the first quarter of 2026, underscoring the region’s growing economic competitiveness.
