Sonora economy shows growth in employment and income

Ahead of Governor Alfonso Durazo Montañor’s fifth government report, economic indicators for Sonora show improvements in employment and income. During the second quarter of 2026, the state's unemployment rate fell to 2.76%, down from 3.0% in the first quarter of the year, according to INEGI data.

Labor poverty in the region reached 22.5%, the lowest level recorded since 2016, representing a 5.4 percentage point decrease compared to the same period in 2025. This decline coincided with a 13.5% annual increase in real per capita labor income, which reached 4,456.88 pesos. Average labor incomes rose for both men and women, increasing by 8.9% and 6.6% respectively. The most significant growth was observed in the transport, communications, mail, and storage sector, which saw a 19.3% increase in average labor income.
