Sonora expands state police force with 271 new graduates

Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño led a graduation ceremony for 271 new cadets, known as the ‘Dragon Generation’, who are joining the Sonora State Public Security Police (PESP). The new recruits, consisting of 130 women and 141 men, completed their initial training at the Public Security University (USP).

This expansion brings the total number of active state police officers to over 2,000, a significant increase from the 866 personnel recorded in 2021. During the ceremony, the governor emphasized that human resource training is the core of institutional strengthening. He also noted that the administration has invested in infrastructure and equipment, including the acquisition of 920 patrol vehicles and enhanced video surveillance capabilities.
