Sonora Governor and Federal Economy Minister Launch Investment Promotion Committee

Governor Alfonso Durazo of Sonora and Mexico's Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard led the inaugural meeting of the Sonora Investment Promotion Committee on July 18, 2026. The event, attended by state and federal officials and business leaders, aimed to strengthen cooperation between the state and federal governments to attract strategic investment and create jobs.

The committee will focus on sectors such as advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, electromobility, clean energy and logistics, positioning Sonora—bordering the United States and on the Pacific coast—as a key nearshoring corridor. President Claudia Sheinbaum's backing was highlighted as a factor in the state's recent economic momentum.

Ebrard praised Sonora's leadership in promoting investment, describing the initiative as a platform for new industries that can boost Mexico's overall economic development.
