Sonora Governor supports national cell phone regulation in schools
Sonora Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño has announced full support for a national initiative to regulate the use of cell phones in classrooms. The measure, promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, aims to protect student mental health, reduce classroom distractions, and restore socialization and creativity skills impacted by excessive technology use.
The regulation will be implemented through different guidelines based on educational levels. In basic education, cell phone use will be avoided throughout the entire school day. In upper secondary education, limitations will be applied according to specific institutional criteria, while higher education will focus on promoting the responsible and safe use of devices as learning tools.
To facilitate the transition, authorities will hold informative assemblies in schools to socialize the content of the agreement. Sonora already has existing regulatory precedents regarding digital devices within its state school regulations published in October 2025.
