Sonora health authorities intensify rickettsia prevention efforts

The Government of Sonora, through the Public Health Secretariat (SSP), has implemented several measures to prevent the spread of rickettsia and reduce infection risks for local families.

Key actions include conducting 524 epidemiological blockades in areas with suspected or confirmed cases. To combat the presence of ticks, the primary transmitter of the disease, authorities have ectoparasitized 3,675 dogs and fumigated 5,006 homes. Additionally, over 41,000 printed educational materials have been distributed to help the population identify risks and prevention methods.

Health officials recommend maintaining clean yards, removing weeds and accumulated objects, and preventing pets from roaming freely. Residents are advised to check pets frequently for ticks, particularly behind the ears and between the toes. If symptoms such as fever, headache, or general malaise occur following potential exposure, individuals should seek immediate medical attention and avoid self-medication.
