Sonora labor poverty hits decade low

Sonora recorded its lowest level of labor poverty since 2016, reaching 22.5 percent in the second quarter of 2026, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).

This figure represents a 5.4 percentage point decrease compared to the same period in 2025, when labor poverty stood at 27.9 percent. The state government attributed this improvement to economic policies led by Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño, which focus on attracting investment and creating job opportunities.

The reduction in poverty was accompanied by a 13.5 percent annual increase in real per capita labor income, reaching 4,456.88 pesos. Average labor incomes for women and men rose by 6.6 percent and 8.9 percent, respectively. Most economic sectors in the state saw increases in average labor income, with significant growth noted in transport, communications, and electricity sectors.
