Sonora leaders promote social reforms and allocate MX$1.8 billion for Sonoyta‑Puerto Peñasco highway

Senator Lorenia Valles toured the northern Sonora municipalities of Caborca, Nogales, Agua Prieta and Cananea, urging residents to keep building the "second floor" of the Fourth Transformation. She cited that more than 13.4 million people have left poverty, the minimum wage has risen 150 % and eight of ten Mexican households receive welfare programmes. Valles highlighted recent constitutional reforms that embed pensions, scholarships, disability benefits and the right to adequate housing as constitutional rights.

Governor Alfonso Durazo, with President‑elect Claudia Sheinbaum’s backing, announced a historic MX$1.8 billion investment to upgrade the Sonoyta‑Puerto Peñasco road, part of a broader MX$3.4 billion road‑modernisation programme in Sonora. The funding aims to improve connectivity, tourism and economic development while reallocating MX$450 million originally earmarked for the route to other regional corridors such as Cananea‑Agua Prieta.
