Sonora man alleges domestic abuse by wife and police neglect
José, a resident of Cajeme in the Mexican state of Sonora, says his wife, identified as Ruby Esmeralda N., repeatedly assaulted him with physical blows, verbal insults and death threats. Security‑camera footage posted online shows the attacks, some occurring in front of his minor child.
He filed a formal domestic‑violence complaint in 2025, but the investigation remains stalled and has not been brought to trial. José also reports that public health services have repeatedly cancelled or postponed his psychological‑care appointments, leaving him without professional support.
When he called emergency services on 31 July, citing a protection order issued by a specialized prosecutor’s office, municipal police officers ignored the order, forced him out of his own home and threatened to arrest him. The case has sparked renewed debate on violence against men and the response of authorities in Mexico.
