Sonora political landscape shifts with Sheinbaum support and MACISO expansion

In Sonora, political developments are unfolding both in support of the federal administration and through the organization of local opposition. Legislator Lorenia Valles expressed support for President Claudia Sheinbaum, praising her administration's focus on national sovereignty and family welfare. Valles highlighted the government's foreign policy, noting its emphasis on cooperation with the United States, Canada, and the European Union, as well as its commitment to regional security and addressing fentanyl trafficking.

Simultaneously, the Movimiento de Acción Ciudadana Sonorense (MACISO) party has begun building its political structure in the state. Hermosillo Mayor Antonio Astiazarán Gutiérrez led the swearing-in of 50 municipal representatives intended to establish a presence across 25 key municipalities. The party, which has gathered over 42,000 affiliates following the loss of the PRD's federal registration, aims to build a unified opposition to the Morena-led state government ahead of the 2027 elections.
