Sonora Santanera honored by Mexican Senate for 71-year career
The Mexican Senate has honored the musical group Sonora Santanera de Carlos Colorado for their 71-year career and their contribution to Mexico's musical heritage. Senator Luis Alfonso Romo presented the recognition, describing the ensemble as one of the country's most iconic groups whose tropical genre repertoire has crossed borders and generations.
Norma Yolanda Colorado, daughter of the group's founder, accepted the distinction. Gilberto Navarrete Jiménez, the group's General Director, noted that the ensemble was named in honor of Carlos Colorado's mother. Following the ceremony, the group performed several of their classic songs, including ‘La boa’ and ‘Perfume de gardenias’.
