Sonora strengthens economic and infrastructure ties with the United States

The government of Sonora is intensifying efforts to strengthen economic ties and infrastructure cooperation with the United States, particularly with the state of Arizona. Paulina Ocaña, head of the State Executive Office, met with U.S. Ambassador Ronald Johnson to discuss a binational agenda focused on competitiveness, security, and development.

Key priorities for the Sonora-Arizona relationship include the modernization of customs and border crossings, water cooperation, and economic integration. Strategic sectors targeted for growth include semiconductor manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, and specialized talent training through university exchanges. Additionally, officials are monitoring border infrastructure projects, such as the Los Alisos wastewater treatment plant in Nogales.

Parallel to these international efforts, the Sonora Secretariat of Economy and Tourism is working to integrate local businesses into the state's growing industrial landscape. Through coordination with the Mexican Chamber of Construction Industry (CMIC), the government is promoting local participation in new industrial, logistical, and commercial projects, including the modernization of the Port of Guaymas.
