Puerto Peñasco operation rescues three kidnapped miners and detains seven
A joint operation by federal and state security forces in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, resulted in the rescue of three independent mining workers who had been kidnapped. The operation, involving the Mexican Army, Navy, and the Sonora State Prosecutor's Office, led to a violent confrontation with armed criminals.
During the shootout, three agents from the Agencia Ministerial de Investigación Criminal (AMIC) were injured but are reported to be out of danger. Authorities arrested seven suspects, including one minor, who are believed to be members of the Sinaloa Cartel's Los Mayos faction.
Following the confrontation, a search of residential properties led to the seizure of a significant arsenal, including more than 40 long guns, two Minimi machine guns, a Browning M2 .50 caliber machine gun, and nearly 4,000 cartridges. Additionally, authorities recovered improvised explosive devices, tactical gear, narcotics, and several high-end vehicles reported stolen in the United States.
