Sonora welfare programs benefit 1 million residents

The government of Sonora has reported that over 1 million residents have benefited from welfare programs during the five-year administration of Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño. These initiatives, supported by an annual investment of approximately 20 billion pesos, have reportedly helped 456,000 people exit poverty.

Key social programs include pensions for seniors and people with disabilities, the Women's Welfare Pension, and various educational scholarships such as the Benito Juárez and Rita Cetina grants. In 2026, 200 million pesos were allocated to the Economic Strengthening Program for Vulnerable Families, reaching over 16,000 households across 72 municipalities. Additionally, 117 million pesos were invested in the Therapy Scholarship program to support over 9,200 individuals with autism spectrum disorder.

Regarding education, Senator Lorenia Valles Sampedro noted that the administration has invested more than 3.7 billion pesos in scholarships over the last five years. This funding has supported 736,000 students and athletes, an amount she stated is more than double the investment made by the three previous administrations.
