Sonora wins first gold medal at 2026 National Paralympics
Ángel Gabriel Sandoval Palomera secured the first gold medal for the Sonora delegation at the 2026 National Paralympics in Guadalajara, Jalisco. Competing in the paratriathlon, Sandoval Palomera won the Men's Youth Major category (ages 16-18) within the PTS4/5 classification.
He recorded a total time of 29 minutes and 59 seconds, finishing ahead of Jalisco's Vicente Alonso Domínguez Sánchez, who clocked 34:41. The performance included a swim time of 6:01, a cycling leg of 15:48, and a running segment of 6:26, with transitions totaling 1 minute and 44 seconds.
Sandoval Palomera is scheduled to compete in paracycling in Zapopan from October 2 to October 4. The Sonora delegation consists of 80 para-athletes participating in seven different disciplines throughout the competition period, which runs from September 20 to October 10.
