Sonos updates iOS app to include Live Activities support

Sonos has released an update to its iOS app that introduces support for Apple’s Live Activities and the Dynamic Island. This feature allows users to access playback controls directly from the iPhone lock screen and Dynamic Island after starting audio playback and closing the app.

The Live Activity widget displays the current room or speaker group and provides controls for pausing, skipping tracks, and adjusting volume. For security, users must unlock their device via Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode to interact with these controls. The widget remains visible for 15 minutes after playback stops.

While the feature is currently available on iOS, it is also supported on Apple Watch and CarPlay, though these platforms currently only offer display capabilities without active playback controls. Additionally, the current version does not display album art, but Sonos stated it is exploring ways to enhance the lock screen experience in future updates.
