Sonos launches Sonos 27 software update with AI integration

Sonos has released the Sonos 27 software update, introducing a new naming convention for its platform. The update is available for all compatible Sonos S2 devices, though specific feature availability depends on individual hardware models.

Key functional improvements include a redesigned interface with gesture support and the ability to pin specific rooms for faster access. The update also introduces ‘Portable Surrounds,’ allowing users to pair two identical portable speakers, such as the Move 2 or Sonos Play, as wireless rear surround speakers for a soundbar. Additionally, an early-access ‘Headphone Linking’ feature allows Ace Ultra headphones to transfer audio between the headphones and nearby speakers without requiring a phone as an intermediary.

On the artificial intelligence front, the new Sonos 27mcp system provides early-access support for integrating third-party AI assistants like ChatGPT and Claude. Looking ahead, Sonos plans to release ‘Sonos 27voice,’ a proprietary music-focused assistant, later this autumn. By 2027, the company aims to launch ‘Sonos Custom Agents,’ which will allow users to configure personalized AI agents with specific voices and behaviors.
