Sonos to unveil AI‑powered speaker system in September
Sonos announced that it will launch a new product in September focused on artificial‑intelligence‑driven “conversational computing and predictive intelligence.” Chief executive Tom Conrad said the company aims to embed AI across its whole‑home audio ecosystem, allowing speakers to understand the layout of a house and coordinate actions through natural speech.
The rollout could involve new hardware, software updates, or a cloud service, but details on pricing, subscription models or specific device types were not disclosed. Sonos highlighted its installed base of more than 53 million devices in over 17 million homes as a foundation for the AI features.
The announcement comes after a troubled 2024 app redesign that hurt customer trust and led to an 18 % drop in Sonos shares, even as quarterly revenue rose 8.8 % to $375.3 million. Analysts have since raised their 2027 earnings forecasts, citing improving demand in markets such as Australia.
