Sonu Malan becomes Aligarh's only female bus driver

Sonu Malan, a 28-year-old resident of Hajiyapur village in the Jattari area of Aligarh, has become the only female bus driver in the Aligarh division. Since joining the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation in 2021, she has broken traditional gender barriers in the male-dominated transport sector.

Malani operates on the Aligarh-Noida highway, completing four trips daily and covering approximately 540 kilometers. Her interest in driving began at the age of 12 when she started operating tractors for agricultural work in her village. Her career path is highlighted as an example of the ‘Mission Shakti’ initiative and the state government's efforts toward women's empowerment and self-reliance.
