Sony adds low‑latency Gaming Mode to WH‑1000XM6 and The Collexion headphones
Sony released firmware version 3.1.5 for its WH‑1000XM6 and The Collexion (WH‑1000X) headphones on June 30, 2026. The update introduces a dedicated Gaming Mode that implements the Bluetooth LE Audio Gaming Audio Profile (GMAP), lowering audio latency to under 40 ms (about 30 ms for wireless transmission and 10 ms for internal processing) and keeping left‑right channel delay below 100 ms.
The feature can be activated through the Sony Headphones Connect (or Sound Connect) app after installing the update. Sony says the mode is aimed at improving audio synchronization for competitive gaming, a shift from the series’ traditional focus on high‑fidelity music and noise cancellation. No new hardware is required; the improvement relies on software optimisation of the Bluetooth protocol.
The same firmware is supplied to both models, giving owners of Sony’s flagship noise‑cancelling headphones a dual‑purpose tool for travel and gaming.
