Sony and Lenovo offer diverging handheld gaming philosophies

The handheld gaming market features two distinct approaches represented by Sony’s PlayStation Portal and Lenovo’s Legion Go S.

The PlayStation Portal acts as a streaming accessory for the PS5, featuring an 8-inch 1080p LCD screen and DualSense-inspired controls with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. It relies on a stable Wi-Fi connection to stream games from a console or via PlayStation Plus Premium cloud services. Due to its streaming nature, it offers high battery life, lasting approximately 7 to 8 hours.

In contrast, the Lenovo Legion Go S is a standalone handheld PC powered by the AMD Ryzen Z2 Go processor. It features an 8-inch 120 Hz display and runs Windows 11, with a SteamOS variant also available. Unlike the Portal, it processes games locally, allowing it to run PC titles independently, though battery life is significantly lower, ranging from 1.5 to 3 hours depending on the game's intensity. The Legion Go S also features a more ergonomic design with non-detachable controllers.
