Sony and Microsoft could price next‑gen consoles at $1,000

Rising global component costs are prompting speculation that the next generation of home consoles, such as a future PlayStation 6 and new Xbox models, could have a minimum retail price of $1,000. At that level, the consumer would face significantly higher expenses for the hardware itself, online services, games and accessories, turning gaming from a mainstream pastime into a more expensive niche.

To justify such a price, manufacturers would need to deliver substantially higher frame rates and visual fidelity. Analysts expect the current PS5 and Xbox Series X/S to remain on the market until at least 2030, while the lower‑end Series S could limit the development of technically ambitious projects.
