Sony and Samsung debut new RGB backlight technology in flagship TVs

Major television manufacturers Sony and Samsung are deploying new RGB backlight technology in their flagship LED models to improve color performance.

Sony’s Bravia 7 II utilizes proprietary RGB Backlight Master Drive Pro and RGB Tri-Luminous Max engines. By replacing single-color backlights with independently controlled red, green, and blue LEDs, the technology aims to prevent color degradation during high-brightness scenes and eliminate backlight bloom. This approach allows for higher color volume and saturation compared to previous Mini LED models.

Samsung’s R95H flagship also employs RGB backlight technology, achieving wide color ranges in laboratory testing. The model includes a 4.2.2-channel spatial audio system and a solar-powered remote. However, despite its technical specifications, the R95H has faced criticism regarding real-world viewing flaws and high pricing relative to competing OLED models.
