Santa Monica Studio Announces God of War Laufey with Faye as Playable Lead

Sony’s Santa Monica Studio unveiled the next installment of the God of War franchise, titled “God of War Laufey.” For the first time the series will not put Kratos in the player’s hands; instead his late wife Faye (also called Laufey) becomes the playable protagonist, navigating the afterlife realm known as the Everywhen.

The game introduces a revamped combat system that restores the series‑classic jump button and emphasizes aerial combos, giving Faye high mobility with a magical sword, a golden hand ability, and two companions – the cube‑shaped Phranque and the magical ribbon Rue. The narrative will feature deities from multiple mythologies, expanding the series’ pantheon beyond the previous Norse focus.

The announcement also noted internal leadership changes: veteran creator Cory Barlog moved to a Head‑of‑Creative role, while Ariel Lawrence takes over as game director. Actress Deborah Ann Woll returns to provide Faye’s voice and facial performance. God of War Laufey is slated for launch on PlayStation 5.
