Sony announces new lightweight G Master super telephoto lenses
Sony has introduced two new G Master super telephoto prime lenses for the Alpha full-frame E-mount system: the FE 400mm F4.5 GM OSS and the FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS. Both lenses are designed to be the lightest in their respective categories, weighing approximately 994g and 995g respectively.
The lightweight design and optimized weight balance aim to improve handheld shooting performance, making them more suitable for tracking moving subjects in wildlife and sports photography. The lenses feature fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance and are intended to provide high resolution and characteristic bokeh.
Comparisons with competing Nikon NIKKOR Z lenses suggest the Sony primes are significantly lighter and more affordable. For example, the Sony 400mm model is approximately 170g lighter and $800 cheaper than the Nikon equivalent, while the 600mm model is nearly 400g lighter and roughly $1,500 less expensive.
