Sony announces PlayStation 5 Midnight Black for Japan

Sony has announced the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Midnight Black, a new aesthetic variant of its current-generation console. The device features a full black finish designed to complement black accessories, such as the PlayStation Portal.

Technically, the console maintains the existing PS5 Slim Digital Edition architecture, including an 8-core AMD Zen 2 CPU, RDNA-based GPU, 16 GB of GDDR6 memory, and an 825 GB SSD. It includes a DualSense controller, though users wishing to play physical media must purchase a disc drive separately.

The Midnight Black edition is scheduled for release in Japan on November 19, 2026, with a retail price of 55,000 yen. Notably, the product is restricted to the Japanese market; Sony specifies that the console requires a Japanese PlayStation account and the system language must be set to Japanese, which limits its usability for international consumers.
