Sony begins Android 17 updates for Xperia 1 and 10 series
Sony has commenced the distribution of Android 17 software updates for several devices in its Xperia lineup. In Japan, SoftBank has begun delivering the update to the Xperia 1 VIII and Xperia 10 VIII, which includes security enhancements and a fix for rare instances of signal loss on the Xperia 1 VIII.
In Europe, users of the Xperia 1 VII have reported receiving the stable Android 17 update, identified by build number 71.2.A.2.35a. This approximately 1.1 GB update introduces a redesigned quick settings panel, new clock designs, new wallpapers, and increased customization options for application icon shapes.
However, reports indicate that Sony has cancelled the promised Android 17 update for the Xperia 10 VI. The company cited the device's hardware configuration—specifically its 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage—as the reason for the cancellation, meaning owners will receive only two OS upgrades instead of the originally promised three.
