Sony implements PS5 Pro lottery in Japan with 60-hour playtime requirement

Sony has implemented a restrictive lottery system for purchasing the PlayStation 5 Pro through its official Sony Store in Japan. This measure is designed to combat scalpers and manage stock shortages caused by high demand and component scarcity, such as DRAM and NAND.

To be eligible for the lottery, applicants must meet several strict criteria: they must possess a Japan-registered Sony account, use PlayStation Network services, and demonstrate at least 60 hours of combined gameplay on PS4 or PS5 between September 27, 2024, and September 27, 2026.

Applications are open until October 7, 2026. If demand exceeds available stock, winners will be selected via lottery and notified around October 26. Successful applicants must complete their purchase by November 2, 2026, or their reservation will be forfeited and redistributed to a subsequent drawing.
