Sony Bravia Theatre Trio expands TV soundstage with dedicated centre speaker
Traditional soundbars often fall short of the width of modern large‑screen TVs, leaving the edges of the picture with insufficient audio coverage. Sony’s new Bravia Theatre Trio addresses this limitation by featuring separate left, centre and right speaker modules that can be positioned beyond the screen edges, providing a wider and more immersive soundstage. The system includes a dedicated centre‑channel driver for clearer dialogue, up‑firing drivers for height effects, and support for up to two powered sub‑woofers, allowing users to scale bass performance to room size.
Calibration is handled through a bespoke USB‑C microphone that connects to a smartphone running the Bravia Connect app, separating the recording hardware from the processing software and delivering consistent room‑analysis results across iOS and Android devices. Early hands‑on testing indicates the Trio delivers strong Dolby Atmos performance and can be further expanded with rear speakers for a full surround experience.
