Sony cancels promised Android 17 update for Xperia 10 VI
Sony has announced that it will not provide the promised Android 17 operating system update for the Xperia 10 VI smartphone. Although the company originally pledged three major OS upgrades for the device upon its launch, it will now stop at Android 16.
The manufacturer cited technical limitations related to the device’s storage configuration as the primary reason for the decision, stating that an update to Android 17 could negatively impact the user experience. While specific technical details regarding the storage constraints were not disclosed, the decision has drawn criticism from users regarding the company’s reliability in meeting software lifecycle commitments.
Despite the cancellation of the Android 17 upgrade, Sony confirmed that the Xperia 10 VI will continue to receive security patches for its full four-year support period, which is expected to last until June 2028.
