Sony CEO Hideaki Nishino signals portable PlayStation 6 development
Sony Interactive Entertainment chief Hideaki Nishino said the company will focus on “pick‑up‑and‑play” experiences and on technologies that can be used in various forms and locations. He described a plan to create a portable device for the next‑generation PlayStation that would be compatible with PS4 and PS5 games and could dock to TVs or monitors.
Nishino noted the growing importance of cloud gaming and the recent rise in users of the PlayStation Portal, while also acknowledging ongoing chip‑price pressures that could affect the timing of a new portable console. He assured that Sony will continue producing dedicated hardware alongside any future handheld offering.
