Sony consolidates Funimation into Crunchyroll

Sony Corporation has completed the consolidation of its animation assets by permanently shutting down the Funimation website and mobile applications as of April 2, 2024. Following the 2022 announcement of a merger between Funimation and Crunchyroll, the service has been fully integrated into the Crunchyroll platform.

Former Funimation subscribers can no longer use standalone activation codes or access the Funimation portal. Instead, eligible accounts and catalogs have been transitioned to Crunchyroll. Users seeking to maintain their watch history and subscription benefits are advised to log in to Crunchyroll using the email address and password previously associated with their Funimation profiles.

The move comes amid a growing global anime industry, which reached USD 37.7 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 77.2 billion by 2033.
