Sony expands AI across PlayStation ecosystem, from game creation to upcoming hardware

Sony disclosed a broad AI strategy in its latest SEC filing, aiming to integrate artificial intelligence throughout the PlayStation ecosystem. The company plans to use AI to accelerate game development by automating repetitive tasks and employing synthetic voices, improve graphics with machine‑learning rendering techniques, and enhance the PlayStation Store with personalized recommendations and faster transaction processing.

The strategy also supports Sony’s next‑generation hardware vision, targeting a PlayStation 6 that can operate beyond the traditional living‑room setup through portable or cloud‑based solutions. Sony highlighted its large installed base—over 93 million PS5 units and 125 million monthly active users—and a shift toward steady revenue from PS Plus subscriptions rather than pure hardware sales.
