Sony expands camera lineup with new FX5 and uncertified high-end model

Sony is expanding its imaging lineup with new hardware developments. A recent wireless certification for a device identified as ‘WW261362’ suggests the upcoming release of a high-end camera. The certification, filed by Sony Corporation in Japan, indicates support for Wi-Fi 6 via 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands and Bluetooth using 1024QAM modulation. Industry speculation suggests the device may feature a BIONZ XR2 processor, potentially marking the arrival of a successor to the A7S III or a new A7R VI model.

In the professional cinema segment, the Sony FX5 has been detailed as a versatile ‘B-camera’ option. The FX5 features a triple native ISO architecture, including a new intermediate Base ISO of 4000, designed to improve exposure flexibility in low-light environments. The camera supports 5K Open Gate recording and 16-bit X-OCN internal recording, allowing creators to crop footage for various social media formats. The FX5 is positioned as a lightweight yet professional tool for independent productions and large-scale film crews.
