Sony extends theatrical run for record-breaking Spider-Man film
Sony Pictures has extended the exclusive theatrical run of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ through November 16 following unprecedented box office success. The film, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, has surpassed ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ to become the highest-grossing movie at the U.S. domestic box office, overtaking its $936.6 million record.
Due to licensing agreements, the film will not arrive on Disney+ for approximately two years. Because Sony holds the film rights and distributes the movie, it follows a Pay-1 licensing model that sends theatrical releases to Netflix first. Projections suggest a Netflix debut between late 2026 and early 2027, while a subsequent arrival on Disney+ is not expected until mid-to-late 2028.
