Sony implements PS5 Pro lottery system in Japan
Sony is implementing a lottery system in Japan to manage the high demand and limited supply of the PlayStation 5 Pro console. The initiative aims to curb the impact of scalpers who purchase high-demand hardware to resell at significant markups.
Under the new system, interested customers must submit an application. If demand exceeds available stock, Sony Interactive Entertainment will conduct a lottery to select purchasers, with Sony Marketing handling the shipping of the units.
To qualify, applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria: they must possess a PlayStation Online Services account registered in Japan and have recorded at least 60 hours of gameplay on either a PS5 or PS4 between September 27, 2024, and September 27, 2026. The application window for Japanese customers is scheduled to close on October 7.
