Sony Interactive Entertainment weighs another PlayStation Plus price increase

Sony Interactive Entertainment said it is evaluating further price adjustments for its PlayStation Plus subscription service. Executives noted that higher‑tier plans – Extra and Premium – now represent about 40% of all subscribers and that the service achieved record profitability in fiscal year 2025. While the company sees strong demand for the added game libraries and features, it is considering additional price changes to balance revenue growth with subscriber satisfaction.

The discussion follows a recent price hike for PlayStation Plus in multiple markets and a recent increase in PlayStation 5 console prices. Gamers are debating whether the added value of the higher tiers justifies higher costs, and some fear that continued hikes could push users toward alternative platforms or free‑to‑play games. Sony’s pricing moves are part of a broader shift toward a fully digital ecosystem, with plans to phase out physical game discs by 2028.
