Sony launches free ad-supported Live TV service on PS5
Sony has launched “Live TV on PS5,” a free, ad-supported streaming television (FAST) service for PlayStation 5 users in the United States. Developed by Sony Pictures Television, the service is integrated directly into the console’s Media tab, requiring only a PlayStation Network account and no additional subscription or app downloads.
The service provides access to over 100 live channels and a growing selection of on-demand content. The programming includes a diverse range of genres such as movies, TV series, anime, sports, news, and weather. Key content partners include Crunchyroll, FOX, NBCUniversal, and Amazon MGM Studios. Specific offerings include anime titles like “Naruto” and “Death Note,” sports coverage from FOX Sports and UFC, and news from NBC News Now.
Sony plans to expand the service to Canada in the near future and is exploring other global markets. The move aims to transform the PS5 into a more comprehensive media hub and provides a new avenue for advertisers to reach gaming audiences.
