Sony launches free Live TV service on PlayStation 5

Sony has launched ‘Live TV on PS5’, a free, ad-supported service that provides access to over 100 live television channels and on-demand content directly through the PlayStation 5 console. The service is currently available to users in the United States, with a rollout to Canada expected to follow. Sony also plans to make the offering available on BRAVIA televisions later this year.

The service is integrated into the Media section of the console and requires a PlayStation account and a Sony Pictures CORE account. It does not require a separate monthly subscription. The content library includes news from ABC News and NBC News Now, sports from ESPN, FOX Sports, and NASCAR, as well as entertainment from partners like AMC, Lionsgate, and Amazon MGM Studios.

Specialized programming includes dedicated anime channels via Crunchyroll, genre-specific channels such as Sony One Horror Hits, and themed channels for series like ‘Community’ and ‘The Shield’. This initiative aims to expand the PlayStation 5's role as a comprehensive multimedia hub and create a premium advertising environment for both consoles and BRAVIA TVs.
