Sony launches True RGB BRAVIA 9 II, 7 II TVs and Theater Trio

Sony Electronics unveiled its first True RGB BRAVIA televisions – the flagship BRAVIA 9 II and the BRAVIA 7 II – together with the BRAVIA Theater Trio home‑audio system. The new models use independently controlled red, green and blue LEDs in the backlight, a technology Sony calls True RGB, which it says doubles colour volume versus its earlier BRAVIA 9 Mini‑LED and provides up to four‑times the colour volume of the BRAVIA 8 OLED. The approach is intended to keep colours vivid in bright living‑room environments, which Sony estimates 87 % of viewers watch in, and to improve viewing‑angle consistency and smooth colour gradation.

The launch was showcased at a Sony activation on the historic Sony Pictures Studios lot in Culver City and at a presentation in New York. Yoshihiro Ono, head of Sony’s Home Entertainment Business Unit, described the technology as “a breakthrough that combines the precision of individually controlled RGB LEDs with the best aspects of both Mini‑LED and OLED.” The Theater Trio adds wireless sub‑woofer and rear‑speaker connections via Direct Connect, extending immersive sound beyond the screen.

Sony positions the True RGB TVs as a solution to the OLED versus Mini‑LED debate, aiming to deliver OLED‑style viewing angles and contrast together with Mini‑LED brightness for real‑world rooms.
