Sony LIV to produce ‘Scam 2010’ series on Subrata Roy

Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has confirmed that production is proceeding for ‘Scam 2010: The Subrata Roy Saga’, the third installment in its crime drama franchise. The series is based on the book ‘Sahara: the Untold Story’ by Tamal Bandyopadhyay and focuses on the rise and fall of businessman Subrata Roy, founder of Sahara India Pariwar.

The project follows Roy’s career in the early 2000s, involving accusations of financial misconduct and his eventual arrest in 2014. Roy passed away in 2023. The production had previously faced legal threats from Sahara India Pariwar, which expressed concerns that a fictionalized account could impact ongoing disputes with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).

During a recent media roundtable, SPNI Managing Director and CEO Gaurav Banerjee indicated that the legal issue may have been resolved, stating, “I believe so.” The series is being produced by Applause Entertainment and Sony’s Studio Next, with director Hansal Mehta returning to helm the project.
